The Golden Café was started 3 years ago in the 7-12 grade life skills classroom. This program was developed to promote social and vocational skills. The students work at the café on a weekly to monthly basis preparing specialty baked items, preparing coffee, hot chocolate and tea. Students help to take orders, make deliveries, make change and fill orders. Our café is in need of new appliances, bakeware and materials. With these new appliances, bakeware items and materials, my students will be able to have a successful and "new and improved" café to serve to the facilty and staff in our school district. With these new items, the students will have a café to be proud to call their own. The students will be able to prepare a great morning specialty bake item and coffee or hot chocolate with confidence knowing that it will be prepared correctly. The students help to bake each week. The students are learning skills by reading recipes and following directions. The students all are involved by helping to mix the ingredients and baking the cakes, cookies, pastries, etc. The students also get much practice with using a variety of utensils and appliances. Then on café day, the students help by serving, delivering, setting up, and putting away the café items. Our café is all run out of our life skills kitchen and then on café day, set up in the hallway for staff to visit or deliveries to be made. The Golden Café is a great experience for all my students!
