Myself and my students are incredibly grateful for your thoughtfulness and generosity. My students are utilizing their new binders to keep themselves organized; one step closer academic success in biology class. They are using these binders to organize notes, vocabulary, labs, and assessments. Keeping organized allows for them to have easier access to learning the material and take pride in the work they're accomplishing. \r\n\r\nI require all students to maintain a binder for my class, to keep themselves organized. When I announced that I had binders available for all students, the look of relief that crossed some of their faces brought so much joy to my heart. The school I'm in has a very high population of students living in low socioeconomic situations. The small act of providing them with a binder, gives them some relief of having to ask their parents or guardian for that financial contribution or hassle of getting to a store to purchase a binder. \r\n\r\nI intend to continue this tradition of providing my students with a binder as I feel it has set a great tone and rapport with them for the school year. One student squealed with excitement, and I teach eighth graders! He begged me to help open the box and with everything he pulled out he enthusiastically read what he pulled! \r\n\r\nMany of my students have only been exposed to their curriculum content for independent reading books and short stories. Most of them have never read an actual novel for enjoyment. We ended our school year with reading The Hunger Games and utilizing the comprehension and vocabulary that came in the teaching book to dive deeper. \r\n\r\nSo many were eager to read this story out loud and looked forward to it every day. I'm so glad we were able to explore this together and expose students to their first novel.
