Each year my students and I raise trout in our classroom. In the spring, we release them in a local pond or lake. I take the students fishing for the day after we release them. Most of them have never been fishing. They live in a big city. It is an amazing experience seeing them catch their first fish. They learn to love the outdoors and a skill that will go with them throughout their lives. They never forget this experience. Many of my students come back years later talking about this amazing chance they go to go fishing. It is my favorite day of the year.
