Creating a calming corner where students can escape their troubles and learn to deal with difficult emotions is essential to our success in the classroom. We have been studying methods of meditation and mindfulness in hopes that students will be able to control their bodies and emotions in a healthy way when placed in stressful situations both in the classroom or on the playground. The motion timer will help students to set a time in which they will complete breathing exercises and shift their focus from a conflict to a tool such as DNA Stress Balls, the Infinity Magic Cube, and a Bamboo Rainstick Rain Shaker in order to give themselves a healthy cool down and reflection period. The Fidget Toys Mix Pack will offer many different options to keep students' attention focused on something more productive than engaging in conflict. Using these tools will help students learn to reflect on their emotions and calm their minds and bodies when faced with a stressful situation. Having the tools to distract them and calm students will assist in understanding and identifying their emotions so that they may be dealt with in an appropriate way in order for them to move forward and continue with their learning for the day.
