This year we read Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in October. The students were enthralled. Reading by themselves or watching the movies, they had missed things. I was able to share with them some historical references to the Sorcerer's Stone, dragon lore, etc. Many of the students who had not read the books prior to this year, continued on through the whole series. I really wanted each child to have a copy to read, but I only have five copies, so we shared, borrowed, and some students brought books from home, but we did not have enough. I paired students up and we made it through but chapters I wanted them to read on their own were hard. We are currently reading Stargirl, and I am having the same problem. I have a few copies but not enough now that we do not have the extended day track time model. To have enough books would make LA time much more enjoyable.
