Flexible seating allows students to make their own choice in the way they learn. During station rotation and independent work, students will be able to choose a place in the classroom to do their work. Currently, my students have designated areas in the classroom to choose to work. The work spaces available include: different tables, sitting or laying on the floor in different areas. I feel the wobble chairs will ensure my students are learning to their best abilities because they’ll be able to get their wiggles out without feeling like a distraction. The soft seats are an option for those that want to be on the floor but may need some extra comfort or cushion. When students are comfortable and feel safe, they can devote their full attention to learning. When students are given a choice, it gives them a sense of accountability and responsibility. The students know that with good behavior the options are limitless. When the students are in their flexible seating, they get more work completed, definitely are more engaged, and on the tasks or assignments I’ve given. Adding the wobble chairs and soft seats will enhance the dynamic in classroom and extend personalized learning further because each student is given a choice in how they learn.
