Being a high school ESL teacher, many students who are new to the country are 13-18 years old, but their English level is that of a 3rd or 4th grader. Many of the books that are at their English level are made for much younger kids. The students are smart, but just need information and readers that are at their English level. These high-interest, low readability readers will allow them to access high school material and stories, but at their own English level. In addition, the laminator, paper cutter, and cardstock supplies will help me to make reusable resources that will allow students to access the information in the stories. I am currently making supplies out of printer paper and they last a year or two at most! These supplies will help students who really want to learn, access high school content and reading themes.
