For the first time, our school is offering Beginning String Orchestra for our 7th and 8th grade students. This optional class was offered to our students and we had 84 students (out of 145) sign up for the class! Our highest expense for this program are the instruments, specifically the cellos and violas. Every instrument you donate will allow 3 more students to have hands-on practice in the classroom. We only have one viola and one cello for approximately 40 cellists and violists. The students are passing the one cello and one viola to each other after they practice for only about 3 minutes! Please consider donating to this project. Offering this class will potentially allow our students to attend highly competitive Chicago public high schools. Some students, who may not be top performers academically, would able to apply to selective-enrollment schools through music. Research has shown that students who participate in music programs improve academically. Although we are limited in instruments, the students are extremely excited for this opportunity. We are also planning on producing actual concerts, so the students can also gain experience performance skills, professionalism, and working as a team. Thank you for your time and consideration for this project.
