We are a high poverty school in a community who speaks over 81 languages. My students come from diverse backgrounds and learn in a variety of different ways. Each and everyone of them have dreams and hopes for the future. It is my hope to get them closer to making their dreams a reality. We recently moved to an interim school where students who once walked to their neighborhood school, now have to be bused while our new school is being built. It is a huge adjustment for everyone. I addition to a language barrier at times, many parents work more than one job and do not have adequate transportation to volunteer in our school. We also have low parent involvement in our PTA. Our PTA is important because they help us buy school supplies but without the membership, there isn't very much money once it is divided up among teachers.
