Technology has become a vital part of our everyday lives. We use it to entertain ourselves, to communicate with others and most importantly, we use it to learn. Technology can give both teachers and students access to amazing opportunities for learning. Every day, my students engage in small group reading time. During this time, students work on different literacy work stations based on skills we are working on. All of these work stations are hands on and mostly made of paper. I think it is essential that one of the literacy stations is one using technology. Students will use the tablets to work on different literacy skills such as phonics and reading comprehension. Many of my students use iPads or even their parents phones to play games when they are home. It is very beneficial if students are using a device that is already familiar to them to learn new concepts or practice their skills. Some students do not have access to such devices at home. These tablets will give students the opportunity to work with a new accessory in an engaging way. They will use different apps to work on various concepts we are working on in class. I have seen just how impactful technology can be in our everyday lives. I believe technology is just as important for learning in an early childhood classroom.
