Our 8th grade United States history class needs an easel! We want to create projects such as Anchor Charts and use the dry erase board to combine, dispute, and justify ideas during Socratic Seminar. Debates are a large part of my teaching approach to U.S. history. When the students are able to defend their stance on a particular topic, I know by their performance whether or not they have grasped the learning target. While debating, we will use the easel as a mobile way to capture ideas. We can later reflect on those snippets to connect and branch onto new topics. My students love creating their own work. They value the authenticity they feel when their work in displayed. It empowers them to feel confident. This confidence, not known to them, is how I know that they are learning. We will use the easel to work collectively and individually on anchor charts. It is my goal for every student to create an anchor chart for every topic covered over the course of the year. I will use the easel to highlight student work.
