My students need a space in the classroom, where they can be comfortable, stay focused, and learn. It is not easy to stay focused when sitting in a hard chair all day, which is why a large rug in the classroom is so important. This classroom rug and reading bench will be used daily for Morning Meetings, read-alouds, whole group lessons, and independent reading. When the whole class gathers at the carpet, it helps students build a stronger sense of community. I would like my students to feel connected to their classmates and also to be able to really enjoy a good book at the rug. The bench will also be used as a seating option for students, during independent reading time and for assignments.
