First graders come to school excited about learning. They are ready and open to learn everything about everything. As their teacher, my job is to help them learn what they need to learn about the world and what's in and around it. They need to know that the world is bigger than the city they live and learn in. They need to see the world is comprised of people, places, and things that are living and non-living. They need to learn that the world includes their backyard...and the six other continents. Scholastic News will help to support the print-rich classroom that I strive to provide. Having their own copy to read and reread will help build necessary reading skills that are essential to proper academic development. By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase student reading skills and knowledge base, you will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement. Student will be able to make connections with prior knowledge, be exposed to new information, and acquire a voice to share their points of interest, like or dislike and view on what ever the weekly topic is.
