All the nonfiction books being purchased will be added to my class library to feed my first-grade learners that are hungry for nonfiction texts. Students being able to engage in various types of text help them to grow in their background knowledge and in their writing. I know that students being able to have greater access to these types of text will put them on the right path to grow academically and socially as they learn about the world in a real way. I know too, that avid readers like myself want a peaceful and comfortable place to read books; so, the pillows being purchased will serve as flexible seating for me scholars during reading workshop or any silent reading time. I want to give these scholars every opportunity to learn about the world around them. As I get to know my scholars, I learn more about their interests. I have a self-proclaimed future astronaut in my class but no books about space. I have a future police officer, but no books about law enforcement. It's so sad! I know with your help it will get better.
