My high school special education students work incredibly hard each day, but many still need additional academic, emotional, and material support to fully participate in learning. For some, school is the one place where they have consistent access to supplies, structure, and encouragement. Small choices in the classroom make a big difference- like scented markers, colored pencils, or traditional pencils help student feel comfortable expressing their ideas and increase their engagement in learning. Many students also benefit from creative outlets to manage emotions. Art materials and emotional support items allow them to clam down, refocus, and return ready to learn. I also strive to build excitement around reading by providing high-interest books at accessible levels. These resources help student build confidence and participate more actively. With your support, my classroom can remain welcoming and supportive.
