One of the major scientific topics we study in 2nd grade is about living things. We observe what living things, including plants, need to survive. My kids also spend a lot of time learning about insects. They love insects so much that many of my students spend recess collecting specimens from the playground and field. This project would allow each of my students to build, observe, and maintain a terrarium in the classroom all year long. They will also get to make their own pooter which is an insect vacuum to collect their own specimens to live in their terrariums.
