I feel like I am a strong advocate for escaping into excellent fiction, but I need these materials to inspire students in the nonfiction realm. A Long Walk to Water has long inspired me, and students will LOVE it. It will open their eyes to how others live and struggle to get what they need, things we take for granted. The Time for Kids magazines are relevant and attention-getting for kids, and will inspire them to be interested in current events. What student doesn't like to know what's going on and be able to speak knowledgeably about current events with the people around them?
