William Butler Yeats said Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire. Working as an Kindergarten teacher I'm trying to light that fire of a love of reading and math in my students. My students all live in a dangerous and poverty stricken area of Washington DC. All of my students qualify for free lunch, and some are homeless. Most of them have very low reading levels and need a well-structured, supportive instruction day. By the end of the year we are hoping to have them make more than a years progress to help them be on the road to future academic success. My kindergarten scholars work hard everyday and are meeting the high academic goals we have set for them!
