I have studied the research behind providing various types of flexible seating options for students in Graduate School and as an Interior Designer prior to teaching. Classrooms composed of rows of desks and hard plastic chairs are of the past; today's classrooms provide options to sit, stand, or lay on a variety of furniture. When students are given the choice to select how they want to learn, they can focus on learning, not their bodies. I am hoping to provide yoga balls to allow active students to bounce, lap boards for students to sit on the floor and work, and comfortable chairs to focus minds on a good book. When students work with me at my table, I want them to have special stools that let them know it is an important part of their day and that I care about their learning. We move, we play, we learn, and I want my classroom to reflect these ideals not hinder them!
