I am simply looking to get some books written in languages other than English, primarily Spanish and Portuguese. As my students learn to speak, read, and write in English, I want them to continue to speak, read, and write in their first languages. Imagine being an intelligent literate 5th grader who struggles to find interesting books to read in the language you know, and has to settle for reading very simple and childlike English books. Also, I want to support reading at home and most students' parents cannot read in English. We are supporting literacy. If students continue to make gains in literacy in the languages they already have they will be able to transfer those literacy skills to English, when their English becomes good enough.

About my class
