Flexible seating allows students to participate in learning with more on-task behavior as they choose where to sit. Differentiated seating is different because students find comfort in different ways. We want to set up our classroom so that all students are comfortable and ready to learn. Not only does this make the environment more welcoming, but also student-centered. Right now, students have one choice - to sit in a chair all day. This is not an ideal learning situation, as we need to meet the students' diverse needs. We'd like to add some color and choices to our classroom! We know that our kiddos need to move and wiggle throughout the day in order to keep their brains focused. With flexible seating, students can choose how to sit and where to sit throughout the day depending on their individual needs and preferences. We are looking to purchase a set of stools to include around our small group table, or for students to move around the room during reading time. We also have some core wiggle seats that can be placed on a chair, stool, or on the ground. Not only do they provide comfort. But allow students to use core muscles for stabilizing. This helps keep attention and focus. The last thing on our list is a set of scoop rocker chairs. These can also be moved around the room. Students can sit upright in them or lean back while reading or doing other work.
