I have been able to create multiple games and activities for my students that directly align with the Science of Reading and support student learning, while also being so much more engaging than worksheets and other paper tasks. The laminating sheets, timers (and batteries), and dry erase markers have allowed student groups/pairs to be engaged in multiple games/activities at a time, rather than waiting until supplies were available. The games focus on specific Science of Reading components: fluency, vocabulary, phonics, phonemic awareness, and comprehension, and therefore enhance the classroom lessons.\r\nI am so excited to have these games to use with this group of students, and I am also excited to utilize these games/materials with classes in the future. I am also excited that these games are hands-on, interactive games, where, in addition to learning the reading (or math) skills, they are also gaining interpersonal skills.\r\nIn addition to these games, students have utilized the additional classroom supplies. Every seat is taken, and the energy in the room is full of engagement. The flexible chairs have been such a hit, that we had to create a rotation schedule—every student wants a chance to use them! It's been amazing to watch how something as simple as a seat can make such a big difference in focus, confidence, and motivation.\r\n\r\nYour support didn't just provide furniture—you gave my students a learning environment they look forward to being in every day. Our Ethnic Fair is taking place next week and so far we have used every piece of material. We have been using the cardstock to print out family trees on. Every student had to work with their families to learn about their ancestors in order to complete the family tree. We are using the colored paper to provide backgrounds to our photos and decorate our tri-fold boards that you all helped to fund. I am so excited for my students to finish the projects and present them to their families and fellow classmates next week! There was a long delay the second time with my returned stools being verified and credited back to my account.\r\n\r\nOf the things I received, the floor desks have been the biggest hit! When a student is struggling to focus on a task, I can simply ask if they might enjoy working in a quieter area of the room or even in the hall. The floor desks make this so easily possible. Perhaps most of all, the students love that they can easily collaborate with any partner or small group using these desks. \r\n\r\nAs a teacher, I appreciate how these tools aid in meeting each student's needs. Young bodies just aren't meant to sit in stationary chairs for long periods of time. During this time, they are able to pick where they sit or work in the room. Every single time, I have students gravitate toward the rug and the bean bag chairs. This helps them practice self advocacy by giving them a choice of where they want their learning to take place. There are at least 4 different ways students can sit on these seats, and they love the variety that these chairs offer.\r\n\r\nOne of the seats is a floor rocker, and the students love sitting on the rocker in the classroom library to complete work or read a book. Since I already had one floor rocker, partners can now sit together to complete work or read together.\r\n\r\nI am planning to implement a new teaching strategy, reciprocal teaching, and I already have ideas of how I can use these chairs, and the different colors, to pair with the jobs in the reciprocal teaching method.
