Students that are in a flexible seating classroom feel that they are more in charge of their learning and their specific needs. I plan to use flexible seating in my classroom to give students the opportunity to choose how they learn. Yoga balls, stools, kneeling pads, and rugs? Those are not just for exercising and using in the garden or house. They are needed to support the movement and activeness of 5 and 6 year olds that are just learning how to function in school. I know that it's hard for me to sit in a standard chair for more than 30 minutes, and I am an adult. Students deserve to move or be comfortable while they work so that they can shine and show their best work. When students enter the classroom daily, they will have the option to sit where they are most comfortable for the day. Students should be able to be responsible for their learning and feel that they have control over how they learn-- and where they learn in a classroom.
