The materials and supplies that I am requesting will help students express themselves through play. Students can't always express themselves verbally. With hands-on materials, students will be able to express what they can't put into words. In play, children engage in problem-solving, test out ideas, ask questions, and build new understanding. The felt materials and board will be used similarly to a sand tray used in play therapy. A lot of times students come to my office upset with issues from the classroom, playground, or even at home. Materials like the liquid tiles, soft pillows, and play dough will help students sooth and calm themselves to be able to explain what is going on. At times it is difficult for students to sit and talk face to face. When students are playing they are more apt to express what is going on. Materials such as games and puzzles will help me have discussions with students without having students feeling they are being interviewed or feel they are on the spot. I believe play is crucial for students' mental health.
