Writing is so much more enjoyable with a professional-looking journal. It's hard to convince the average seventh grader of the importance of the written word. With our technology-saturated society, they would often rather be found on their phones or devices. Yet, it's often helpful to have a foundation of the physical aspect of writing ideas down and working with them before completing technology-based writing assignments. Journal writing supports later technology use. I would like my students to have nicely-bound professional journals to write in that convey the importance of writing. Without this project, most of them will just have notebooks.
