About 3/4 of my class perform below grade level in both reading and math due to a wide variety of cognitive, language, and other disabilities. Seeing them struggle and feel disappointed in themselves because they are labeled “below proficient” is truly heartbreaking for any human being, let alone an educator. With these tablets and the capabilities of technology now a days, I can provide my students endless possibilities through online intervention programs to build not only their academic needs but also their self esteem. Unfortunately working in a low income district, technology resources are lacking or extremely limited. We often have resources cut, or not replaced which hinders my ability to help my students succeed in these academic areas. Being awarded this grant would mean the absolute world to me and my students because you will be providing them the opportunities to improve and strengthen their knowledge in both reading and math, which will then provide them with the self esteem needed to push themselves to do better as they progress through school.
