The ability to fluently multiply and divide are key skills my third graders need to develop in order to become successful in future math concepts and classes. The best way to become proficient in math facts is through practicing in a variety of different ways and settings. Having the resources to provide hands-on practice creates a stimulating and exciting environment the engages students in the repetitive practice of math facts. Math centers give students the opportunity to develop their math skills as they interact with their peers in a fun and engaging way. Another benefit of the math centers is students naturally develop stronger interpersonal skills as they learn to work with and encourage each other.
