My students need quality mentor texts through which to learn the traits of effective readers and writers including Not a Box, What Do Author's Do?, In My Opinion, and so many others. The mentor texts I am requesting will help teach reading, writing, and language skills through authentic text. Students will use the books to discover and notice parts of speech and qualities and traits of writing. Students will learn to make predictions, connections, and inferences while reading. They will learn to ask questions, discover themes and delve deeper into stories.. Studies have shown that the best way to teach the analytical skills needed for success in school and in life, is through quality literature. They will learn to relate and connect to the books and gain a lifelong love for reading. Donations to this project will increase the books I have in my classroom to be shared and loved by my students. The students will be exposed to quality literature that is lacking in many of their home lives. They will help the students become critical readers and gain back the love of reading.
