I work in an low-income urban public school. Our classroom becomes the home away from home for our students. They know that when they walk into our class we are ready to learn. Unfortunately, the majority of my students qualify for free and reduced lunch, come to school hungry and without resources to learn effectively. Fortunately, they do come with a passion for learning new things. I want my students to know that no matter where they come from, their present circumstances, or their socioeconomic status they can and will be whatever they put their minds to achieve. I strive to instill in my students the value of education, the power of their voice, and encourage them to "be the change they want to see in the world." As an English teacher, I want my students to know that their voice and story matters and that it should be shared with the world. Join me in helping my students realize they and their education matter.
