I have always been strict in my ways, however I've always felt the need for children to be able to get out of their seats to work. Many of us can't sit in a chair for more than a few minutes, now imagine a 6-year-old trying to stay seated in a chair for an entire day. I give my students the opportunity to sit on the floor with a clipboard or sit under a desk if they feel that's the best place for quiet work. I was just recently introduced to flexible seating. What is that you ask? Flexible seating is giving the students the opportunity to sit in a different spot or on a different kind of seat. For instance, I am not the tallest of people and when I was little my feet never touched the ground, so I would stand to do my work and I would get in trouble for not being in my seat. I teach first graders and some of them are little, therefore their feet don't touch the ground so they need seating that is flexible for them. I give my students the chance to find a comfy spot to work but I am limited in my seating choices.
