This project/Novel Study (Having Our Say by the Delaney Sisters) will not only give students the opportunity to actually read about a particular person that looks like them and may have faced some of the struggles they may be facing. Through this journey students will also be able to make real life connections, and be inspired to be better students, and better writers. This book study will also give the students the chance to learn more about the Harlem Renaissance while touching on various required state standards. Standards that are not only required but will allow them to eventually make the necessary advancements to college. These books such as the Bluford Series will help my student increase there AR scores while increasing their love for reading.
