My students will be creating a wedding cake. The process of this project will require them to create a mock up of a cake, an actual scaled down version of the real thing as well as baking items to make real cake! The students will learn about fractions, ratios, volume, surface area, problem solving through a large project and the business of making cakes. Students will also learn how to measure out portions and to learn how waste is bad for the world and also bad for their business. Students love hands on activities and this project requires them to actually see the math. The students will build a small mock up of the wedding cake based on their design and they will use the materials provided (kid putty, toothpicks and cookie cutters)to create a beautiful model scale of the cake.
