iPads will aim to significantly enhance the learning and teaching of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) in 5th curricula along with universal centers and classroom differentiation and intervention. In mathematics we are looking at supporting students' mathematical learning in the area of fractions as well as helping integrate with ADD-Vantage (AVMR). Grade 5 desires iPads because the apps developed by Virginia Tech and the U.S. Math Recovery Council (USMRC) (Candy Factory, Candy Depot, Candy Span, and Candy Bot) are educational games only found on iPads. Grade 5 does not have everyday access to iPads. In order to maximize our math interventions, we are looking to obtain engaging programs that reinforce our teaching and allow students to work independently to experience success while filling in their learning gaps.
