Students with high levels of self-awareness and regulations skills are more learning-ready and capable of recognizing and managing their stress, key factors in nurturing the development of college and career readiness such as resilient behaviors and mindsets. Elementary-aged students who are provided an opportunity to build their self-awareness and management skills are less likely to disrupt the classroom learning environment. Classrooms with non-punitive opportunities to self-manage provide students with safe spaces to process and reflect. Students would be taught to utilize the "Peace Corner" if they notice themselves experiencing intense emotions that are impacting their ability to remain learning ready.
