Our school has roughly 630 of our 1400 students that experience food insecurities, live in risk of hunger, and often times do not know where their next meal will come from. No child should experience hunger while going to bed; the goal of this project is to help remove that barrier, which will increase learning and help them succeed. With local economy slightly improving, we have seen more families no longer eligible for assistance for things like food stamps. As a result, we see more students in need of food. To address this issue, our school has created a pantry that will hold food accessible to any student or family member. Hopefully this will help bridge the gap, allowing them, in turn to focus on their education and learning. Snack foods selected will give students a variety of options to chose from. They can throw items in their backpack and have food to eat either during school or outside school hours. One particular student is currently living in his car, just trying to graduate. He is working and going to school, but still does not have enough money to meet his living needs. We can help him by providing some food that is easy to eat, with little to no preparation required. Just something to get him through the nights and weekends when free breakfast and lunch are not available. Please help our students get the food they require to be able to focus on other important aspects of life, such as an education.
