Picture with me if you will...Summer is ending. Fall is in the air. Everyone is ready for the first football game on Friday. When suddenly, the worst happens. The offensive line misses a tackle in Tuesday's practice, and an over eager defensive lineman tackles the quarterback to the ground. The whistle blows, coaches yell. Everyone gets up from the pile...when suddenly...everyone notices that Johnny Hot Cakes QB has broken off his two front teeth! All because of the lack of simple mouthguards! There are no towels to wipe the blood gushing from his mouth! Vain Johnny Hot Cakes shouts out, "That's it! I quit!" The team storms out behind him, frustrated at the lack of equipment and a disfigured quarterback. The game is cancelled on Friday. All school spirit is lost. Bummer. While this seems like a silly story, unfortunately this is a scenario that could play out at our school - all because of a lack of basic football necessities. Many richer school districts have access to simple team needs like towels and mouth guards. Because of education budget slashing, our team is not so fortunate. Yet, these courageous, strong-willed boys continue to come to school and fight hard against teams with bigger budgets and extra bells and whistles. We are needing simple things like sideline towels for hygiene and, of course, waving on the crowd during the game! Have you ever seen a movie about football where the players are not wearing mouth guards? Basic football equipment. Dentists flock to our games like lawyers chasing ambulances! Please help our team achieve these simple items that most programs take for granted. These are good, hard-working kids who do more with less, and deserve to play the sports they love with the tools they need.
