Sculpture and ceramic creation is a large part of the art world. In my classroom we study art history and modern arts. Right now students view these 3D sculptures and ceramic wares in 2D format in pictures. Students will benefit from getting to touch, feel, and create using clay. Some students may find they prefer working in 3D format as opposed to drawing and painting which is what I am able to provide to them. Clay is tactile and we can focus on art elements such as texture and form in a new way. Not only will students learn how to create with clay; the experience will help them to appreciate sculpture and 3 dimensional artwork from other artist. It will help them understand what it takes to make that kind of art.
