My students are in need of pottery supplies that will be used to create clay rattles. With an emphasis on "form and function", students will be creating a sculptural form that takes the shape of an animal. Each clay form will also make noise by placing smaller pieces of clay within the center of the structure. The creative interpretations of the animal's textures, shapes, and patterns chosen will be the focus of the project. This project will allow students a hands-on experience that involves design thinking. Preliminary research, concept designing, and clay building technique investigations will all be a part of the project outline. Using the pottery tools purchased through your donations, students will discover new ways to manipulate the clay and work in the round. Using the glazes purchased will also allow a chance for color theory explorations. Donations to this project will significantly help our new high school art program grow by building a ceramic studio, which exposes students to the world of sculpture. Teaching students to work with their hands, think creatively, and design with real objects in mind help them to become keen observers of the world around them.
