The use of sensory items for kids with autism increase their ability to pay attention and stay on task when working. Children with autism have a difficult time processing sensory information. These include textures, sounds, smells, brightness, and movement. Sensory integration is used by teachers through using activities to change how the brain reacts to the sensory information and sensory overload. I chose the wobble chairs because motion can be a calming sense to children. When a child is able to move around, the brain stays organized, which helps the child pay attention. I chose the LED lights, the water machine, and the sounds machine because these are items I feel my students would use on a daily basis in a sensory corner to calm themselves when they become agitated or when they need a break from work. My students love looking at lights, love music, and having items to touch. These items all grouped together would be a perfect sensory and relaxation station.
