Rugs anchor areas of the classroom by setting the space apart from other areas. These rugs would be used in an English as a Second Language classroom. In our class, we meet together as a whole group to set the lesson up. The large carpet with natural colors will help to define the circle time space with a clean area. The natural colors and pattern on the rug reflect the nature theme that we study during various units. Plus, the squares help identify space for the student's body. The smaller rug will encourage the literacy theme in the library area. The green color reflects the natural color of the large rug, while the alphabet detail emphasizes knowing letters and sounds. These spaces defined by new, comfortable, clean rugs help create an inviting learning environment for the students who come for additional English as a Second Language support in reading and writing.
