These materials will help me to work with students in an urban district as a mental health clinician. Lots of the students that we serve come from households in which they've endured trauma and they need someone to talk to. My office is an area in which they come and share lots of personal information about themselves. I want it to be somewhere that they feel comfortable and safe to do that. My intentions are to create a space in which they feel comfortable to come and talk about whatever is going on. I utilize talk therapy and different exercises to help them to learn more about themselves. Having something to distract them while they talk helps as well so I try to have snacks available and other creative outlets so they feel more comfortable.
