My students deserve to have books to read in their English class. The two sought-after texts, The Other Wes Moore and Between the World and Me, are culturally responsive books which will both open up a world of information to them and facilitate the exploration and questioning of the inequities of the world around them. Baltimore City is rife with the harmful effects of systemic racism. As Baltimore City natives, my students deserve to understand the harsh realities that society has created for them. They need to understand the inequities so that they may one day fight against them. They need to be challenged by writers who write for them, by writers who may have been them years ago. I humbly ask for your donation, for my students are some of the bravest and cleverest around. They deserve to have books that will challenge and provoke them in their English class.
