These materials will allow my students to have engaging activities to reinforce and enhance these valuable skills that are essential to 1st graders. My grade group is focusing on these areas to ensure that our first graders are leaving us with the skills they need to be successful in second grade. When students practice skills with activities that are engaging they stay focused and on task. Word work, sight words, writing, reading and vocabulary are foundation skills that children need to be successful. I will utilize the fishing for sight words and sight word practice cards in centers to allow the students to work on sight words in an interactive way. The daily language journal and vocabulary journal will be great for daily use for the students to record our weekly vocab words and use the daily language practice as morning work for practice. The roll and read phonics games will be utilized in centers as part of the literacy routine practice. The teaching reading skills activities will be used in centers as well for the students to practice the essential skills. These games can also be used in small group for reinforcement for students who need more support. These materials will be put to good use and will be used for years to come by many children.
