Our 1st Grade Team will be using picture books to promote comprehension, vocabulary, phonics, grammar and writing. We have a list of books that support the reading curriculum that we have purchased; however we do not have all the books to read to our class. Picture books like Amazing Grace, Ida Always, and The Koala Who Could not only can support comprehension, but they can also teach students lesson through their story. Picture books play a critical role in learning, helping students develop self-awareness and teaching them how to make inferences, among other things. This is why the text in the picture book is often rich, evocative and engaging. Hearing this type of language will enrich a child’s language development.
