The iPad 5th Generation tablets with WiFi have apps and cameras. They are easy for students to access apps/software to explain what they know without having to only rely on something written. A digital portfolio will provide a way for them to document what they know using a video, a voice over explanation, and/or include the use of manipulatives. Being able to talk through solving a problem can circumvent access barriers for many of my students who struggle with reading and writing. It helps build their perserverence, because they are excited they can tell what they know how to do. They would demonstrate what they know using white boards, manipulatives, and/or any other tools at their disposal with a voice over. Their work products would be stored for me to watch at a later time. For this reason, I'd like to request 2 iPads with WiFi so students can learn how to build digital portfolios. Two would provide enough basic access for an entire class to share. Student work can also be used to teach others, share with parents, or be used as a personal reference. Pictures of their points of pride can also be included.
