Learning to play ukuleles will give my students skills to cross musical genres. I am choosing Makala Ukuleles with gig bags to start my students on a good instrument that will also last and be protected. Since this is the beginning of the project, I am hoping for the project and the program to grow in the future. I want my students to learn through playing ukuleles that "their" music - popular music - needs the same skills as older music, so we can have fun connecting them to all types of music! I hope that they will be inspired to get their instruments and continue their music learning as they grow older. This project is specifically designed for our 6th graders, who are typically one of the most challenging ages to teach in our school. I need to capture their attention and turn their creative energy to inspiration.
