I have recently created a play dough center in my classroom. It is the first center you see when you enter my classroom. I have a large table, chairs, and shelf in the center. I have added some play dough and a few supplies to the area but I am in need of much more to make this a powerful center that will support the children's learning. This center will provide the children with experiences to develop in the following areas: social/ emotional, language, literacy, science, math, physical education, and art. The children will be able to use their imaginations and strengthen their small muscles while squishing, sculpting, rolling, pounding, and poking the play dough. This center will support the children's social skills as they will share materials, take turns, and work cooperatively. The children will develop language skills by describing their creations and building their vocabulary. The children will develop math skills by counting, classifying, identifying and describing shapes, and comparing. Books added to this center will increase the children's literacy skills. The children will create and write their own stories about their creations. The children will use their senses and hands on experiences to develop science skills in this center. The children will have fun while learning.
