My plucky inner-city fourth graders always inspire me. In spite of the many obstacles they face in their high poverty community, they show up everyday eager to learn. Their parents, many of whom work more than one job, show up as well. In fact, on average 90% of my parents come to parent conferences. We are a family working together to meet the needs of our students. My school is the Not-So-Little Engine that Could. Despite radical budget and staffing cuts we are making it work every day. Our students are 80% English Learners and all receive free breakfast and lunch. Dealing with an ever changing enrollment and diminishing resources has it's challenges. However, through excellent collaboration, our school has done more with less and proved that determination is very powerful!
