I teach two sections of English Language Arts to a total of 56 fabulous fifth graders. Each of my fifth graders has varying social, academic, and emotional needs. In order to ensure that each of those 56 kiddos are given the necessary tools to reach their full potential, we are moving towards a personalized learning model. With this model, students are put at the center of their learning at a pace to match each students' needs and tailor learning to their interests. Flexible seating fits into this model by allowing students a choice in what kind of learning space works best for them. By providing a variety of seating options during independent and group work time, students are in charge of their learning and are able to maximize how they are using their work time. From wobble chairs, to bouncy bands, lap desks, and more, students' diverse seating needs will be met to help personalize learning. My classroom environment will be conducive to collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking. By putting these three "c's" at the forefront of my philosophy, students are provided with the learning environment they each need to succeed. These unique and hard-working students make me so proud to be their teacher. Each one of those students deserves a learning environment that matches their needs to grow as learners and individuals.
