I am the only art teacher at KASA Baltimore College Prep. I teach grades 6th-12th in two classrooms with over 300 students a year. My students are from a very challenging high school on the Westside of Baltimore, MD. The school is located approximately a mile from the epicenter of the recent Freddie Gray protests, and the majority of my students felt and feel disenfranchised by the poor economic and educational opportunities available to them in Baltimore City. This is extremely relevant for the art classroom. The budget for art supplies has been frozen, and I cannot even purchase nice quality paper for my students to paint on. My students deserve the best materials to learn and grow as young artists.
